Seo Young Deok (b. 1983, S. Korea) is a sculptor using iron and bike chains to form and weld life-size sculptures of human expressions: Anguish, Despair, Meditation, Nirvana, and more.  His work addresses the relationship between humans and modern society – especially the often chaotic and lonely nature of human lives even as they are carried out so close to one another. Humankind is linked to one another, yet simultaneously separate. Using cold and rigid chains, his sculptures exude warmth and movement while bringing attention to the effects of industrialization on our society.

Since 2009, Seo has been featured in over 11 international solo exhibitions in Paris, London, Geneva, Capri, Venice, Istanbul, and Seoul. His works are collected extensively in private and public collections.

Seo lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. He is a graduate of The University of Seoul with an MFA in Environmental Sculpture.
