Making the ordinary high street an extraordinary experience

About W1 curates

Masterpieces should be for everyone, not just the privileged few. Too often, wonderful art can feel exclusive, secluded within dusty galleries or intimidating exhibitions. It can appear inaccessible, upper class or even old fashioned. Instead of being ignited with powerful art, people on the street are bombarded with urban advertising.

At W1 Curates, we’re here to change that, by bringing powerful art to the people. At the heart of London’s iconic Oxford Street, we’ve transformed the exterior of Flannels London Flagship store into an extraordinary public exhibition. Using state-of-the-art technology, we exhibit the best art with digital prowess and unmissable innovation.

“For me, when shoppers rest their bags down and stare at the incredible art, it’s the best feeling in the world. Giving everyone the opportunity to experience art, to access it right on the high street - amid all the noise of city life, it provides this little oasis. Shoppers and workers are left feeling ignited and inspired. That’s why I do it. We bring art to the people, we open those doors, and who knows where that could take them?” - Mark Dale, Founder

We’re proud to be showcasing works from some of the most innovative artist from around the world.

Our campaigns

We believe that art has the power to change the world. Working with artists and NGOs, we drive consumer consciousness away from the high street and towards the issues that really matter. Art has the power to improve lives.

W1 Curates X EBOY

Walk to work, for those who can't. Supporting muscular dystrophy.

With lockdown restrictions starting to lift, thousands of people classed as vulnerable will not be joining them.

Carmela is among those who will still be at home. She has been shielding for the last 5 months like many who have a muscle-wasting condition. Now, we’re getting Carmela out the house and into a special 8k virtual London.

You can join her by walking the last part of your journey to work and donating the travel fare you saved, and by encouraging others to do the same.

As the COVID-19 pandemic unravels, we all have a part to play in protecting ourselves and others. Artists and curators can use their unique skills to express vital NHS messages in powerful ways. To drive home life-saving advice for health and mental health care, we’ve partnered with Amplifier, launching a global competition to bring powerful art to people.

We’re calling on artists across the world to produce art which will help and inspire everyone to stay strong, safe and united. The 100 winning artists will receive £1,000 apiece, and their art will be widely distributed where it’s most needed, across physical and online locations.

Legendary street artist Shepherd Fairy has already donated some of his iconic work to the cause. Celebrating the heroic missions of healthcare workers around the world, as well as emphasising the necessity of masks and had washing, his art is proudly showcased at our flagship Oxford Street Exhibition.

Uniting with other UK landmarks, our exhibition on Oxford Street transforms into a bright NHS blue on Thursday evenings at 8pm. We do this to show our utmost respect and appreciation for our health workers, who have been working selflessly and tirelessly during this time.

This weekend we have teamed up with EveryDoctor UK and artist Frank Riot. Since the start of the COVID-19 crisis, EveryDoctor has been advocating tirelessly for the safety and well-being of every doctor, receiving international attention and press coverage about shortfalls in PPE, testing and dire working conditions for healthcare workers in the UK.

Many health and social care workers have already died from COVID-19. It’s clear more needs to be done to protect NHS workers as they risk their lives to protect us.

The EveryDoctor UK campaign to protect NHS workers aims to ensure every single healthcare worker has the adequate protection and support they need during the COVID-19 crisis.

Nurturing education is paramount for the future. We support budding artists, as they develop their theoretical and practical skills at university or college. We believe that preserving in the study of Art leads to enlightenment and exploration, not only for the student, but for others too.

At W1 Curates we’re committed to helping fresh artists, to bring out their potential and harness innovation.

Lending a helping hand to local talent, we’re proud to support the next generation of artists.

Our history and culture have been shaped by many different people. So, when it comes to celebrating heritage, nobody should feel left out. We all have a part to play in ensuring this and at W1 Curates, we take it very seriously.

This year, to celebrate Black History Month, we’re proudly collaborating with Underexposed Art’s, “The Peckham Portraits”.
By exhibiting the collection right at the heart of Oxford Street, we’re on a mission to ensure that this art is no longer unexposed. With over 50,000 pedestrians every day, from all walks of life, we believe that this is the best exhibition venue for maximum impact.

Everyone in our society is part of our culture, and we will always strive to ensure that in our exhibitions.
