W1 Immersive present Craig Mullins 'Pioneering the Digital Canvas'

Craig Mullins is a luminary in the world of digital art and stands as a true trailblazer in the realm of digital painting. Also known as The Godfather of Digital Art, he is globally recognized for his remarkable contributions to the evolution of conceptual art for both the film and video game industries. Schooled in the classical painting style of the great Masters, Mullins admires and is influenced by many artists, but his inspiration is primarily from the forms that he sees in nature. The student in him is continuously growing and learning about the world around him.

Mullins played a pivotal role in pioneering the use of digital tools for artistic expression. He became one of the first artists to fully embrace and master digital painting software, particularly Photoshop. Mullins’ thirst for knowledge, strength as a traditional painter, and his ability to push the technology resulted in him creating his own digital “brushes” and a signature “painterly” style.

This mastery marked a significant shift in the art world, where the traditional canvas and brush were increasingly complemented, and sometimes replaced, by the limitless possibilities of the digital canvas.

Thirty years later, Mullins’ innovations continue to be emulated by artists around the world.

W1 Immersive present Fabian Aerts 'ODYSSEY'

Fabian Aerts, also known as SouthArena, is a Belgian 3D artist and creative enthusiast driven by a profound passion for cinematography and visual storytelling. He thrives on pushing the boundaries of imagination, crafting surreal worlds that captivate and inspire.
For Fabian, 3D art is not just a medium, it's an essential form of expression. His artistic realm oscillates between beauty and darkness, delving deep into the human condition and our relationships with ourselves, others, and the world around us. Themes of nature, birth, life, love, and death intricately weave through his work, reflecting his introspective exploration of profound existential questions.
With an unwavering affection for organic forms and an inherent fascination with the extraordinary, Fabian elegantly intertwines these cherished themes. Each of his creations transcends mere visual aesthetics, aiming to convey profound messages that resonate on a subconscious level, provoking introspection, and contemplation about the essence of life itself.

W1 Immersive present Vollut 'SAFE DISTANCE'

Vollut is a digital artist who has been exploring the potential of animation and storytelling through computer graphics for the past decade. He has developed a unique style that has captured the attention of both the public and notable brands like Apple, Microsoft, Nike, and Meta. In his work, Vollut uses the concept of universal basic particles, from which all existing things are composed, and creates colorful worlds woven from identical elements. Inspired by the pointillists' scientific approach to light, Vollut goes further and transfers the macro properties of familiar objects, such as texture, movement, color, or shape, to objects assembled from uni-particles in his animated work.

"This exhibition is an attempt to capture the world's beauty through several impressions I've received while traveling. But wherever I was, the feeling of an impending catastrophe never left me. I captured both. I was inspired by the work of neo-impressionists but did something they couldn’t think of: made the artwork move and unravel a story through animation.
That’s a very special moment for me because three things will happen here: it’s the first time I control the medium in which you will perceive my art (usually digital art is consumed through small screens), it’s the first time I introduce my visual style to a wide audience, and it’s my first solo exhibition." Vollut

W1 Immersive present 'THE V01D' by Joshua Davis/Praystation

"My work emanates from an active dialog between the computer and myself. Simply stated, I write software that generates unique animations and compositions. I often focus on conjuring algorithms specifically to make art ad infinitum. The code can produce works akin to snowflakes, where no two versions are identical. In effect, I’m partially a critic and curator, living with the program I've written, watching it formulate and evolve very closely. My goal is to capture moments in time that are gloriously ethereal.I embrace chaos and chance. However, I orchestrate the complex visual symphony like a maestro. The visualization of IBM’s Watson and winning the Prix Ars Electronica’s Golden Nica are major highlights. Institutional exhibitions include the Tate Modern, the Design Museum London, le Centre Pompidou, the ICA London, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, MoMA PS1 New York, the Whitney, the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum."

W1 Immersive present Ken Kelleher

Ken Keller:
Whether it’s a personal place, corporate, communal, institutional, I see art as a means of engagement to provoke thought, dialogue, introspection and conversation. Sculpture for me is an inquiry into the deep mysterious nature of things. When utilitarian use is taken away from an object, a series of objects or forms, what remains? Another artist once said, 'Sculpture is a journey of curiosity made visible’ - which I agree with. I like the idea of taking basic, elemental shapes and inflating them, altering them, stacking and shaping them. Once I’m done with one piece I usually have ideas for several others. The amount of variety that can be produced by moving one or 2 shapes through space is amazing. I like taking say 3 basic forms and uncovering all the possibilities of how it can be arranged. Then there’s material, which adds another layer of interpretation and process. The visual expression I try to achieve is one that is open to interpretation. In one piece someone may see something playful, or whimsical, in another it may feel strange. Think of these huge, non utilitarian forms, set down in the midst of our busy world, which accelerates even more every year. The sculpture may get in your way, may interrupt your path. Does it make you stop? Does it make you wonder?

In a world where imagination is often the first element of humankind to be ignored, or tread into the ground, I seek to exalt what we are capable of making. Why be content with the commonplace, or to step back and watch machines, or corporations replicate what is around us in a way that doesn’t acknowledge our existence, our lives, what makes us human? I hope my work compels and inspires you, and pushes you to go beyond.

W1 Immersive presents KidEight

KidEight is a self-taught digital artist, motion designer, and Photoshop savant who spent the first 15 years of his career as a freelance graphic designer. Cycles is a digital piece that approaches the passage of time from a poetic perspective. The scenic architecture plays with depth perception and the extension of the physical world to an untouchable infinite reality, while setting the stage for multiple situations that happen simultaneously. Visions Of Orisha - Inspired by the supernatural entities usually referred to as deities in the Yoruba religion of West Africa, Orishas are actually emanations or avatars of the supreme being Olodumare. According to the Yoruba belief, Olodumare was too immense for the human mind to grasp and so released different aspects of itself, each of which received a certain sphere of influence randomly. Today, people invoke the Orishas in personal or communal rituals for spiritual strength, enlightenment, or assistance in daily challenges. Although there are many Orishas, seven are understood as the most powerful and have become the most popular among modern-day adherents, they are Esu, Ogun, Obatala, Yemaya, Oshun, Shango and Oya. W1 Immersive presents Andres Reisinger and Sam Mason - Any Day Now

Reisinger and Mason’s piece is a visual poem reflecting on life’s cycle and everything that happens in between. The main question is towards the possibilities of the future: how will our experience be, next time? The overall feel of ANY DAY NOW is reminiscent of a metaphysical suspension counteracted by a strong geometrical structure. The artwork paints a place in unrolled time, where gravity reigns and where any living element, such as humans, is extracted. Several components have been included as metaphors of life and its endless evolution. Life, power, wealth, and nature are narrated through universal symbols, portraying a picture of the present moment that endures forever. ANY DAY NOW includes some of Reisinger’s signature symbols, such as the apples and books, signifying the physicality of things translated into the virtual realm in a game of proportions and dimensions. These objects are set into motion by Mason’s dream space, brought to life in a looping allegorical narrative. New elements, such as the columns, also appear, solid symbols of ancient architecture inserted into a novel world.
