W1 Curates presents 'THE FLIP' by Transmoderna

May 1st - 31st

Earth’s magnetic field is a vital force guiding migrations, stabilising ecosystems, and
quietly enabling modern technology. In recent decades, this constant has begun to
falter. As the geomagnetic poles reverse with increasing speed, what once felt solid is
inevitably crumbling.

THE FLIP, Transmoderna’s new immersive experience, explores a future where
humanity’s fragile systems—biological and technological—collide with planetary
disarray.

At the center stands Mira, emblematic of a generation defined by anxiety. Her whole
being is driven by Weltschmerz, a collective exhaustion born from the friction between
the fantasy of a coherent, fulfilling life and the reality of its impossibility. Through her
heightened sensitivity, she registers the violence of disarraying structures while also
signaling the potential to detach from their grip. Tuning into the deeper currents of the
Earth’s destabilising magnetic field, her reality unravels in sync with the pole reversal.
As communication networks fail, her work as a DJ is disrupted, and she seeks solace in
nature. As navigation grids dissolve, she fever-dreams herself into a gameplay of
collecting healing charms. And as society’s noise becomes overwhelming, she finally
accepts the calling. Through her, we confront a world where humanity’s instinctive
connection to nature has been outsourced to machines. However, through her, we also
discover the possibility of restoration.

The branching narrative of THE FLIP evolves unpredictably. It follows the fuzzy logic of
adjusting, recalibrating, and surviving amidst the events of collective futures in disarray.
Each visit reveals new fragments of Mira’s journey—explorations of her life, her dreams,
and her growing attunement with Earth’s shifting frequencies. Experiencing the
complete narrative requires multiple visits, reflecting humanity’s iterative struggle to
adapt.

Original soundscapes by Dixon, Jimi Jules, and Trikk amplify the tension. Their tracks
underscore Mira’s unraveling, merging seamlessly with the visuals: satellite maps
devolving into static, neural networks echoing auroras, and interfaces pulsing with the
rhythms of failing infrastructure.

THE FLIP is not a supernatural journey but an infranatural one; it unfolds just beneath
the Earth's crust, perceptible to those who are attuned. It is a practice of atmospheric
hacking: tuning into frequencies where the geological and psychological entangle, where
the rumble of the geodynamo meets the body’s ache for unmediated connection. It is
here, in the infranatural, that we might trace the worn grooves of adaptation—the daily
acts of survival that could, if amplified collectively, become a grammar of restoration.
Can we reclaim those parts of ourselves that we've surrendered to the machines? Can
we recalibrate our relationship with Earth's forces before our systems collapse?
